Beatnik Emblem – Day 19 of Design Challenge

Beatnik Emblem – Day 19 of Design Challenge

This challenge has tested my creativity in many ways. While I was making this design, I was meeting colors I already visited in this challenge. I was thinking that I have to push myself and use blends I never encountered before. I started to blend colors that normally don’t work together to see where it would lead me. I found a nice peach and brown blend that I haven’t worked with before. I really love how it looks. I think it’s wonderful to go down an unusual path with color. Oddly enough, I don’t normally take this approach with every design. I like my comfort zone colors. I could easily shape all my travels around red, blue and purple. It would be nice. However, I feel it’s necessary to be uncomfortable with color to see if you can find gold hidden underneath unorthodox blends. What I like to do now is start off blend a comforting color before heading into the unknown.

A goal of mine is to create art that’s unique. Something that’s kind of detached from this reality. It has a strange look but it’s intriguing. I always try to aim for something that looks odd but colorful.

The title… At the end of making Beatnik Emblem, I thought that the shape looked like an emblem that could be embroidered on a jacket. The round rectangle that houses the 3d shape was originally a circle. I don’t like drawing circles. I feel you can’t do much with the shape but I wanted to try something. I made a 3d shape inside the circle. Rotating mirror made my circle into a rounded rectangle which is fine with me.

I’ve been working on my timing a lot with editing videos. I think I’m getting better. At first, I remember being very hesitant on cutting footage. I wanted to show the whole process of making a design. This result has led to footage not matching the audio. Now, I cut footage if I feel it’s necessary to have a good video. I do cut in sections that don’t contribute much to the end design. Sometimes I play with blends only to discard them later on. I can’t see how well the audio is matching with the video in movie maker. The video freezes up every time I play the timeline. Now, I listen to the song on windows media player and adjust the speed in movie maker. It works 90 percent of the time. I do run into other issues but most of the time the video looks great when I can get the timing right. I love this music video. I hope you like it as well. I hope you like the design too!

I’m getting closer to the finish line!
